Underwater & Marine

Maritime vehicles and technologies have always been in need of dependable power sources that can be relied upon at the most difficult times. Whether relating to standard power applications or special operations, SES has developed advanced battery systems that will provide primary or secondary capacities to power multiple layers of naval operations in relation to submarine warfare, USVs (Unmanned Surface Vehicles), UUVs (Unmanned Undersea Vehicles), and ROVs (Remotely Operated Undersea Vehicles).

Underwater vehicles are becoming capable of operating unattended for weeks or months in open ocean areas, periodically relaying data by satellite to shore, before returning to be picked up. This whole thing has become possible only due to battery back-up.

Our technology is capable of supporting a variety of naval applications :
  • Payload Delivery for Special Operations
  • Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR)
  • Mine Countermeasures (MCM)
  • Oceanography
  • Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW)
  • Inspection/Identification
  • Information Operations (IO)
  • Communication, Navigation and Network Node (CN3)
  • Time Critical Strike

Our engineers have designed ruggedized power solutions that are able to be configured to meet specific mission requirements. This flexible configuration capability is suitable for both shallow water applications and deep water exploration.

Most marine & underwater vehicles in use today are powered by rechargeable batteries (lithium ion, lithium polymer, nickel metal hydride etc.), and are implemented with some form of Battery Management System. Some vehicles use primary batteries which provide perhaps twice the endurance—at a substantial extra cost per mission. A few of the larger vehicles are powered by aluminium based semi-fuel cells, but these require substantial maintenance, require expensive refills and produce waste product that must be handled safely. An emerging trend is to combine different battery and power systems.

Our customers need a battery partner they can rely on and SES ensures that safety, reliability, high performance and ease of use are designed into the product from the start, it is this approach that ensures that our customers stay ahead of the competition.
